Privacy policy

Last updated 1 July 2026

This policy explains what personal data OtherMind collects, why, and the rights you have over it under UK data protection law (UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018). We keep it deliberately plain.

Who we are

OtherMind (“we”, “us”) is a UK-based product for autistic adults, currently in development. For the purposes of UK GDPR we are the data controller for the personal data described here.

If you have any questions about this policy or your data, contact us at hello@othermind.app.

What we collect

Right now, the website is a pre-launch site. The only personal data we actively collect is what you choose to give us when you join the waitlist or request beta access:

  • Your first name and email address.
  • Which option you selected (for example, “notify me at launch” or “apply for the beta”).

We also process a small amount of technical data your browser sends automatically (such as your device type and approximate region) to keep the site secure and working.

Your test answers stay on your device

The standardised screening tests on this site (AQ-10, CAT-Q, ASRS-5) run entirely in your browser. Your answers and results are not sent to us or stored on our servers. If you leave or refresh the page, they are gone.

The OtherMind test

The OtherMind test works differently, and says so up front. Your answers are scored on your device, and at the end you choose what happens next:

  • If you give us your email address, we store your answers, your results and your email so we can send you a copy of your results, hold them for you, and let you know when the OtherMind app is ready for you to pick them up. Our lawful basis for storing your answers and results is your consent, given when you choose to save them.
  • That single “the app is ready” message is the thing you asked us for when you saved your results, so we send it on the basis of our legitimate interests in doing what you asked. It is one message, it is not marketing, and you can tell us to stop at any time at hello@othermind.app.
  • If you also tick the separate box for occasional updates about OtherMind and new autism resources, that is marketing, and we send it on the basis of your consent. It is never bundled with saving your results, and you can unsubscribe whenever you like.
  • If you choose “show my results without saving”, nothing is transmitted — your answers and results stay in your browser only, exactly like the screening tests above.
  • When the app opens and you sign in with the same email address, your saved test profile is attached to your new account, so the app picks up where the test left off and you never re-answer anything.

Your test answers describe your health and wellbeing, so we treat them as special category data and apply extra care: we never sell them, never use them for advertising, and never share them beyond the service providers who store and send them for us. You can ask us to delete your test data at any time at hello@othermind.app.

Why we use your data, and our lawful basis

  • To send you your OtherMind test results and hold them for you. Our lawful basis is your consent, given when you choose to save them.
  • To tell you, once, when the OtherMind app is ready — if you saved your test results and therefore asked us to. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interests in doing the thing you asked us to do. You can object at any time and we will stop.
  • To contact you about OtherMind — its launch, beta access and related updates — if you joined the waitlist or ticked the box for occasional updates. Our lawful basis is your consent.
  • To operate and secure the website. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interests in running a safe, functioning service.

We will not use your details for unrelated marketing, and we will not add you to anything you did not ask for.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with the service providers that help us operate — for example, email and hosting providers — and only so they can perform those services for us under appropriate agreements. Some may process data outside the UK, in which case we rely on safeguards required by law.

How long we keep it

We keep waitlist details until you ask us to remove them, or until they are no longer needed for the purpose you gave them (for example, a reasonable period after launch). You can ask us to delete your details at any time.

Cookies and local storage

We keep cookies to a minimum. We do not use third-party advertising or cross-site tracking cookies. The site uses your browser’s local storage for essential things like remembering your light or dark theme preference and avoiding duplicate waitlist sign-ups. If we introduce analytics in future, we will update this policy and, where required, ask for your consent first.

Your rights

Under UK GDPR you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you.
  • Have inaccurate data corrected.
  • Have your data erased.
  • Restrict or object to how we use it.
  • Receive your data in a portable format.
  • Withdraw consent at any time, without affecting earlier processing.

To exercise any of these, email hello@othermind.app. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk, though we would appreciate the chance to help first.

Changes to this policy

As OtherMind grows, this policy will change — particularly once the app launches and we process more than waitlist details. We will update the date above when it does.
